What is the Impact Circle?

The Impact Circle is an exclusive network of accredited investors and high potential entrepreneurs supported by renowned experts and service providers to advance the best solutions for the base of economic pyramid (BoP). Members get access to privileged and personalized services, which combine the strengths of an on ground local team with a large global network.
Who can be members of the Impact Circle?

Impact Circle Membership is limited to investors who qualify as "accredited investors" in the respective jurisdiction. Accredited investors must certify that they have knowledge of and experience in financial and business matters and that they are capable of evaluating the merits and risks of prospective investments. All investors are encouraged to seek legal and other professional counsel prior to making any investments.
What does it mean to be an Impact Investor? What am I committing to?

Any individual or organization who is interested to invest and support for profit enterprises that are creating a social impact, via equity, debt or grant are termed as Impact Investors. By registering with the circle, an Investor is not only committing to investing but also commits time to mentor and support enterprises as they undertake their journey.
What are the membership criteria's of the Impact Circle?
In order to encourage the creation of an active network based on trust and transparency, members have to fulfil the following membership criteria:
- Commitment to make a positive social impact at the BoP in India by investing in Sustainable Enterprises.
- Meet the applicable legal criteria of ‘accredited’, ‘institutional,’ ‘professional’ and/or ‘qualified’ investors, as the case may be, in their respective jurisdictions of residence or incorporation or where they maintain their principal place of business.
- Have sufficient financial resources and commitment to make at least one investment of US$ 25,000 per annum together with other members of the Impact Circle, subject to satisfaction of the Impact Circle Member’s independent business and legal due diligence.
In addition to the above criteria, active members are required to fulfil some of the following criteria:-
- Capacity or networks to contribute at least three (3) qualified deals per annum to the collective deal flow at Impact Circle.
- Willingness and time to collaborate during the business review, due diligence, negotiation of potential investments facilitated through Impact Circle from time to time.
- Provide mentoring, advice, connections and other non-financial resources to support potential and investee companies in order to scale their impact from time to time.
How can I become a member of the Impact Circle, what is the process?

You need to send in an application with any two professional references validating your investing experience to be a member of the Impact Circle. The screening committee usually takes five to seven days to approve the application, provided it meets the overall objective of the Circle.
Who are the experts on the Impact Circle?

Any individual/organizations that have extensive experience through practice and education in their respective fields and can provide advice, consulting or mentoring can be termed as experts. This can include individual professionals, consulting organizations as well as volunteers and interns. The Impact Circle has recruited a broad range of experts and mentors providing strategic and operational guidance to the enterprises at different stages of their growth. The experts are seasoned professionals, domain experts, entrepreneurs, investors and consultants.
How is the Impact Circle any different from other "Angel Networks"?
The Impact Circle is a network of committed individuals and institutions which have a clear focus on investing in for -profit enterprises which are creating a sustainable impact at the base of the economic pyramid unlike other typical Angel Networks. The Circle seeks to balance large social impact with fair financial returns. Given below are some of the other critical points on which it differs from other "Angel Networks":
- Diversity of Capital - The Circle aims to provide a diversity of financial instruments like grants, equity, debt or a hybrid structure from different investors.
- Sector Experts/Advisers - Renowned sector experts, local partners and NGO's committed to help scale enterprises.
- Impact Measurement - Tools to Measure social, economic and environmental impact using standard rating systems.

What are some of the benefits of being a member of the Impact Circle?

Members may have a diversity of interests to invest and support sustainable enterprises focusing on the BoP in India. Investors are attracted by market rate returns while foundations are mainly interested in sustainable impact. Overall, members benefit from creating:

Lower Investors Risk => Fair Financial Returns => High Sustainable Impact

Some specific benefits for different possible member types are:-

High Net Worth Individuals	Make direct investments without hiring your own local team
Foundations	Combine high impact objectives with fair financial returns
Venture Funds	Access to pre-vetted deal flow and an opportunity to invest early
Large Corporations	Invest in and partner with companies to access BoP market opportunities
Private Banks	Provide loans and other forms of debt capital to entrepreneurs screened by other investors
Development Finance Institutions	Institutions focusing on triple bottom line investments i.e. social, environmental and economical

What are the different member categories for the Impact Circle?
There are two categories of membership, Individual and Institutional for the Impact Circle:
- Individual members are inducted in their individual capacity only and not as representatives of any organization.
- Institutional members will be joining as representatives of an institution.
