Investment Criteria

All applications submitted to ennovent will be evaluated in accordance with the following investment and exclusion criteria. Additional, as well as more specific, criteria may be laid down by ennovent from time to time.

Target Market	Base of the Economic Pyramid (BoP) - People who earn about USD 2.- or less
Geographic Region	Rural and urban poor areas in India
Sector Focus	Innovations for sustainability that are valuable to people at the BoP (e.g. food, energy, health, education and water)
Definition of Innovation	Innovative products, processes, services and business models that address challenges of sustainability at the BoP in developing countries.
Enterprise Type	Indian or foreign for-profit enterprises working or planning to work in India. We do not invest in funds, NGOs or lending institutions
Impact of Enterprise	Triple Bottom Line Returns - social, economic and environmental impact - at the BoP in India
Enterprise Size	Small and medium size enterprises
Stage of Operation	Short to medium-term operating history (not seed stage). The enterprise should have proof of concept and at least partly proof of market.
Capital Commitment	Per enterprise: €100,000 to €1,000,000 in equity, loans or structured finance (but not grants)
Capital Utilization	Scale-up, growth or expansion capital (no repayment of pre-finance or deficit reduction)
Investment Period	Payback or exit in five to seven years

EXCLUSION CRITERIA

ennovent will not consider discriminatory, political, religious, lobbying, immoral or illegal activities; sponsoring of individuals, events and conferences; enterprises that do not respect human rights or comply with current environmental and social legislation; activities related to weapons, casinos, drugs, alcohol, tobacco; or real estate and construction activities.

Government personnel or public sector organizations will not be considered, nor will intermediary organizations such as international NGOs that seek to create social value through provision of financial and technical support to local NGOs and community-based groups.
